Honda told to repave 'singing' road

Rafay Ansar

It's not unusual for a car maker to commission a catchy ditty to go along with marketing a new model, but Honda's plans to entertain drivers with a 'singing' road has backfired after residents complained about the noise.

In Lancaster, California in the USA, contractors working on behalf of Honda finished work on a quarter-mile section of road earlier this month, reprofiling the surface so that it would make a sound like the theme to 'The Lone Ranger' when driven over at 55mph in a Honda Civic.

However, local residents have kicked up a fuss, some claiming the road makes nothing but a high-pitched drone, while others complaining that it's preventing them from sleeping.

Officials have agreed to pave over the ridged section this week to restore the peace.
